Rich Dart

Rich Dart has been a percussionist for over twenty years, and has played with over one hundred performing groups and ensembles. Rich started studying percussion through the local school system in Clinton, Connecticut and then later with percussion master Ernest Centoscudi and then eventually receiving his Bachelors of Music from Keene State College in New Hampshire. Rich has had a wide and varied career as a free-lance percussionist as an active member of various symphonies, jazz groups, theater troupes, rock bands, country bands, percussion ensembles, etc, etc. You name it, he's played it. His wide range of playing comes from his even wider range of influences including players such as Buddy Rich, Stewart Copeland, Elvin Jones, Ronnie Tut, Larry London, Emil Richards and Evelyn Glennie. He's toured the country several times over with Rhode Island legend and former Roomful of Blues front man, Greg Piccolo. He's one of the founding members of the country/rockabilly/rock and roll band, Creamed Corn and he has appeared on stage with the likes of beatnik legend, David Amram, jazz great, Lionel Hampton, former Monkee, Micky Dolenz, Muffs singer, Kim Shattuck and Late Night with Conan O'Brien's famed trumpet player, Mark Pender. In 2005, Rich received critical acclaim when he portrayed the role of The Musical Merchant in Yale Rep's production of William Shakespeare's "The Comedy of Errors", prompting the New York Times to call him "a remarkable percussionist". He currently occupies the drum chair for the North American Tour of Avenue Q The Musical, a show he played on Broadway as well.
